The Reserve on the Saluda is perfectly located to boast some of the most productive fishing spots in South Carolina. It is situated just north of the confluence of the Broad and Lower Saluda Rivers both which are known to be THE premier fishing rivers in the state for year round angling. The depths range from 2 to 10 feet allowing both warm and cold water fish to inhabit the area.

Variety Of Fish

The variety of fish swimming in the Saluda River are numerous and varied.

large mouth bass1) First and foremost The Saluda is known for its TROUT. There are 3 different species in the river – Rainbows, Brown, and Brookies. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources stock 30,000 trout yearly between December and February providing flyfishing and spincasting opportunities year round. this is possible due to the 60 degree water feeding into the river from Lake Murray. Holdover trout grow to be some of the largest trout in the state. The Reserve on the Saluda properties are located just south of the “catch and release” section of the river, ensuring four season trout activity which can’t be found anywhere else on the Saluda.

2) The Second species (which I hold near and dear to my heart) appear in Mid April. STRIPED BASS (Striper or Rockfish) swim upstream to spawn which provide several months of incredible angling opportunities to catch this sought after sportfish. The South Carolina state record Striper was caught in these waters weighing over 34 Lbs! These fish can be taken on lures, live bait as well as flyfishing…. Could you Imagine hooking on to one of these giants while flyfishing in your backyard?!!

3) Angling for PANFISH is a favorite amongst light-tackle fishermen worldwide. The Lower Saluda contains varieties including Blue gill, Sunfish, Punkin Seed, and Crappie (red eyed bass).

4) CHANNEL CATFISH reach very large proportions in the Lower Saluda River. A short distance away in 1964 the WORLD RECORD CHANNEL CAT was landed weighing 58 pounds!

5) LARGEMOUTH and SMALLMOUTH BASS are found in this section of the Lower Saluda and are targeted by anglers nation wide.

6) Other species of note populating this river are : Chain Pickerel, Yellow Perch, American Eel, Spotted Suckerfish, and Carp. The Sandbar Shiner is often trapped and used as live bait and used to catch for the sportfish in the river. Owning a property at The Reserve on the Saluda will make you the envy of fishermen everywhere!
